Sea Swimming

Swimming in the Sea Since 1860.

We swim in the sea every day of the year from our Club changing rooms just to the east of Palace Pier. Our members have a range of swimming aspirations; some just paddle, others use the club as a training base for longer swims.

The club’s premises – known as The Arch – are at Unit 6, Lower Promenade off Madeira Drive, Brighton, BN2 1ET, just to the east of Palace Pier. This is used by our sea swimmers for changing and showering and as a base for Arch events. Club members who use the arch on a regular basis pay an annual membership which includes cost of electricity, water, routine maintenance of the facility and gives them access to the arch at any time. Arch members are full members of the Club in every other respect.

The Arch section runs a series of sea races through the year which are open to all Club members. They also run the annual Pier to Pier Race, which is an open event – and one of the oldest open water races in the country.

The membership year for the Arch starts on 1st April each year. We welcome membership enquiries at any time, but if the membership reaches capacity, then we run a waiting list system until there is space.

We do also receive enquiries from swimmers visiting Brighton and wanting to swim while they’re here. We’ll always try and help if we can – send us an email
